Kevin Baker is the Research Lead and Managing Director at Is Feidre Linn Consulting, bringing over 20 years of extensive experience in research and organizational management within a diverse range of global organizations across the UK, Europe, Sub-Saharan Africa, and Southeast Asia. An Irish national, Kevin began his career in financial services communications and research before transitioning to the public health sector, where he has distinguished himself in research, monitoring, evaluation, and the promotion of research uptake.
In his previous role as Senior Research Advisor at the Malaria Consortium, a prominent evidence-driven non-profit organization, Kevin successfully led teams of research professionals in the planning and execution of multi-country impact and implementation evaluations. His work has focused on critical areas such as malaria, neglected tropical diseases, and innovations in maternal and child health. Among his notable accomplishments, he built and directed a research team for a $40 million pediatric seasonal malaria chemoprevention program and achieved an impressive 80% increase in research funding over five years, securing support from a diverse array of donors, including GiveWell, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Unitaid, USAID, and the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO).
In addition to his research expertise, Kevin served as a trustee for a large UK HIV charity, which provided him with valuable insights into the various perspectives involved in managing successful non-governmental organizations (NGOs). This experience has equipped him with a nuanced understanding of governance, operational challenges, and stakeholder engagement essential for fostering effective organizational management.
Kevin is recognized as a subject matter expert in evaluation design, possessing extensive experience in both quantitative and qualitative evaluation methodologies. He has made significant contributions to the academic literature, with over 40 publications in peer-reviewed journals and a robust presence at international conferences.
His educational credentials include a PhD from the Karolinska Institute in Sweden, an MSc in Public Health from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, an MA in Communications from Kingston University, and a Bachelor of Business Studies from the University of Limerick in Ireland.
As an independent research and evaluation consultant, Kevin has engaged in a variety of consultancies, including the development of global research priorities for malaria and support for UNICEF’s implementation research programs in Malawi and Zimbabwe. He also provides research support for innovative diagnostic initiatives with ProtonDX.
Furthering his commitment to advancing public health, Kevin serves as a Special Advisor to the Lancet Global Commission on Medical Oxygen Security, advocating for critical health resources and strategies.
With a robust skill set that includes advanced data analysis tools such as STATA, NVIVO, Dedoose, and MaxQDA, Kevin Baker continues to drive impactful research initiatives that promote health equity and enhance healthcare outcomes in underserved populations.
